«Altyn-Emel» State National Natural Park was created in 1996 to preserve the unique natural complex of this region. The park has 634 species of plants, 41 of which are rare and 27 endemic. Here grows a huge elm, which is over 700 years old. Near this elm there is a stream from which quenches thirst associates Genghis Khan. To cover this elm, need eight people, so it is huge. There is also a tree with an incredibly solid crust from which ancient people carved bullets and called him "a stone." Among the animals that live in the park 56 species are included in the Red Book of Kazakhstan: snow leopard, wild manul cat, marbled polecats, Central Asian river otter, stone marten, etc.

40 species of birds are found here in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. More than half of the species of reptiles inhabiting Kazakhstan live in ponds and marshes "Altyn-Emel". Ili River and Reservoir Kapshagay are rich in such fish as carp, grass carp, catfish, bream, perch, chub. Ili Marinka, Balkhash perch spike listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.

"Singing Dunes" is popular in "Altyn-Emel". Dune is several kilometers long, 120 meters in height. In dry weather dune produces melodic sounds, for which he was named "Singing Dunes". Dune, despite the fragility of the sand, do not roam, it is in the "Altyn-Emel" for several thousand years. Legends of local people stipulate that great Genghis Khan and his loyal soldiers were buried under the dune, and the sand sings when the khan’s soul "exhausted from the mental anguish, says descendants of his exploits."

The most famous attractions of "Altyn-Emel" are five royal burial mounds, called Besshatyr that translated from Kazakh as "five tents". Ancient Turkic runic inscriptions of 8-9 centuries preserved in Tamgaly Tas were possibly left by Kipchak people.

Magnificent mountains Aktau and Katutau with their unusual contours also represent a landmark of "Altyn-Emel". The first is a small volcano that gives a unique look of Katutau. Gore is erupted of volcano glowing lava that cooled down immediately. Aktau mountains surprise with marine deposits of red, green, pink, and even bluish shades covering intricate rocky slopes. Once archaeologists discovered in the mountains of Aktau dinosaur bones and the remains of the later species are here and now.
